Archive for February, 2010

for many years i have heard stories about the cross that sits on top of the mission here at the church across the street.  but now i guess in some ways i have my own story about it.

the other night some of us went out for dinner.  it was saturday, our staff were off for the weekend due to all the prayer services that were going on around the country, so we were cooking for ourselves.  i am pretty sure that we are all competent to do that, but sometimes in haiti when you are the one cooking it can be hard to know what ingredients or how to even find what you need.  so saturday we decided that it would just be fun for all of us to go out to dinner.  it was the interpreters and some of the girls who live here on campus and we had a few staff and group members who were also here.

of course like any plan in haiti things weren’t exactly like what one would expect.  our food took longer than we thought.  so we got to sit around and talk and laugh and i had to call one of our staff down for the fact that we couldn’t take him anywhere! (just kidding grant!)

it was walking back that night as we made a bit of a scene in the streets even though it wasn’t very late that i looked up the hill towards the mission and saw the lights.  the generator was on, the stained glass windows of the church were streaming beautifully and the cross on top was bright.

this morning i was reading micah and this encouraged my heart. . .

“come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord

and to the house of the God of Jacob,

that He may teach us about His ways

and that we may walk in His paths. . . (4:2)

but as for me, i will watch expectantly for the Lord (7:7). . .

because He delights in unchanging love.

He will again have compassion on us;

He will tread our iniquities under foot.

yes, You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

You will give truth to Jacob

and unchanging love to Abraham,

which you swore to our forefathers From the days of old.” (18-20)

i am so grateful that we can come to the cross of Christ and lay our burdens down. i also hope to walk in His ways.

i am also grateful that this place is here in Haiti.  we are like a mountain of light in a land sometimes that is just literally dark.

my heart is also encouraged amidst much pain and heart break.

seeing many of our patients healing or seeing them come back in to be checked and seeing them better makes me glad that we can be a place where people can come and many times find God’s unchanging love shown.

new post. . .

i realize that i have not posted in a while. it is not from a lack of things to say or stories or events. it is almost a lack of being able to process at times and just really putting one foot in front of the other.

thanks so much to so many of you for your prayers and support over the last month.

God is good and i am excited to see what the future holds.
